A Salute To Those Who Served (1148 hits)

Hello Rattlers,

Welcome to another exciting issue of the FAMU Forward newsletter, a bi-weekly publication designed to keep you informed on the great achievements taking place at FAMU every day by our students, faculty, staff and alumni.

In this issue of FAMU Forward we give thanks to the brave men and women who have served our country in the military throughout its illustrious history. Special thanks goes to the members of the FAMU community who have sacrificed and put their lives on the line so that we can all enjoy the blessings of freedom that can only be experienced in the United States.

I also want to thank all of our alumni and friends who returned to the “Hill” for our 2016 Homecoming activities. The week, which was composed of multiple exciting events capped off with more than 26,000 Rattler fans cheering our team on to a thrilling 31-14 victory over the Pirates of Hampton University. The announced attendance for the game marks one of the largest homecoming crowds among all Football Championship Subdivision Schools. With this in mind, please come out and support the Rattlers at our final home football game on November 12th. Let us end our home season with a packed stadium as we face the Bears of Morgan State University, and prepare for the Florida Blue Florida Classic against Bethune-Cookman University on November 19th in Orlando.

In this week’s issue, you can read a full story on several events that took place during Homecoming Week to include convocation and an exhibit sponsored by the Dr. William P. and Mary Ann Foster Foundation, celebrating 70 years of the Marching “100.”

The University community also pays tribute to the legacies of Markel O. Mazelin and Quinton Langford, two student members of the FAMU Family who will be sorely missed. They both now leave a lasting impact on the hearts and minds of many through their acts of leadership, kindness, and service as scholars and gentlemen.

As we continue in our daily routines it is important for everyone to remain vigilant of your surroundings at all times. In an effort to promote this important practice, the University is conducting a series of forums aimed to help encourage all members of the campus community to be proactive in matters of safety.

The University will close on November 11th as we pause to honor Veterans Day. With this in mind, please join me in a giving a heartfelt thank you and a Rattler Strike to all those who served. Again, please enjoy the latest information in your FAMU Forward newsletter on the outstanding accomplishments of our students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Thank you and always remember that by striking together, there is no limit to what we can accomplish on behalf of FAMU!
