Kids Galore at National Center's ‘Booked on Heritage’ Event!

WHEN: Thursday, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

WHERE: ASU's National Center, 1345 Carter Hill Rd., across from the Heritage Barber Shop

Alabama State University's National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture will host its annual “Booked on Heritage” children’s program on Thursday, July 14 from 9 to 11 a.m. The program promotes reading and cultural awareness by introducing young children to books about their heritage.

Michael Eaddy, an actor, educator, writer, motivational speaker, author and the godson of the late E.D. Nixon Jr., better known by his stage name Nick LaTour, will be the featured storyteller. His children’s nonfiction book is titled “E.D. Nixon: The Unsung Father of the Montgomery Bus Boycott.” Nixon Sr. was a Pullman porter and civil rights leader who worked with Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to initiate the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

Inspired by a desire to share the legacy of E.D. Nixon Sr. with future generations, Eaddy decided to write a children’s book. Pages of the book are filled with illustrations detailing Nixon’s life of activism.

“Booked on Heritage” also will be hosted by author/storyteller Joseph D. Trimble. The event is free and open to the public.

For more information, contact The National Center at 334-229-4824 or 334-229-4106. Please RSVP in advance to schedule groups.
