
The Tennessee State University Athletics Department held its annual Awards Banquet on Monday night, honoring student-athletes from all of the university’s sports programs.
Tennessee State alumnus and Director of Recruitment, Everett Jolley, served as the master of ceremonies while Athletics Director Teresa Phillips and President Glenda Glover opened the program with remarks.
Each coach spoke about their program and presented awards to their teams throughout the night while the letterwinners, cheerleaders, Tiger Gems and members of FCA were also recognized.
Associate AD Dr. Johnnie Smith also handed out the top Academic Awards for the student-athletes who garnered the highest GPA on their respective teams.
The Academic Excellence Awards went to Grant Maddox (tennis) and Amber Hughes (track and field) for earning the highest GPA’s among all student athletes.
Three Big Blue athletes walked away with the night’s top awards. Track and Field’s Clairwin Dameus and Amber Hughes were named Co-Female Athletes of the Year while men’s basketball standout Keron DeSheilds earned the nod for Male Athlete of the Year.
