Howard University Students Launch Community-Based College Program (18446 hits)

New Jerseyans plan to maintain a strong state presence on HBCU campuses

Howard University’s New Jersey Club announced its plan today to send more than 47 students from historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) to high schools across the New Jersey area as part of its new community service initiative entitled “HBCU College Tour: NJ Edition”. This is the program’s first year.

“HBCU college tours are a great way for college-bound high school students to witness the black college experience firsthand,” said Joy Stradford, President of the New Jersey Club. “The “New Jersey Edition” brings the HBCU experience to college-bound New Jerseyans.”

College students who will participate in the HBCU College Tour attend historically black institutions from across the nation. They will visit public and private high schools in New Jersey to educate students about their respective universities and encourage them to apply.

“Due to common restrictions and hardships a lot of high school students are not able to participate in out-of-state campus tours,” said Adriyanna Andreus, Vice President of the New Jersey Club. “We are giving students an opportunity to hear from those who attend out-of-state black colleges like Howard free of charge and in the comfort of their own school.”

For more information about the New Jersey Club, or to participate in the HBCU College Tour, call (973) 207-7280 or e-mail hunjclub@gmail.com.
