Fourteen members of the Bennett College Pre-Alumnae Council (PAC) attended the 67th National Alumni Council/57th National UNCF Pre-Alumni Council Annual Leadership Conference in Charlotte, NC. The conference provided interactive workshops and engaging industry speakers that explored the best and most promising practices relevant to students, alumni and UNCF-member institutions.
Amra Marshall, President of the Pre-Alumnae Council, spearheaded projects to ensure their attendance at the conference would be both beneficial to them and the College. “We have always valued the experiences and opportunities we receive from the UNCF/ Pre-Alumni Council Conference. It has afforded us many networking opportunities and created a working partnership with the other member institutions. The conference has enhanced our appreciation for the contributions that our alumnae and those of the other 37 UNCF member institutions have made. We know they are the ones who have paved the way for us to attain a college education.”
The Pre-Alumnae Council’s preparation paid off for them at the conference as they won 1st place in the scrapbook contest and was selected as the PAC of the Year for the Eastern Region. The scrapbook contest was judged on a 100-point scale including general appearance, content, composition and completeness. The PAC chose as their theme for the scrapbook, “Light of Beauty.”
As PAC of the Year for the Eastern Region, the Pre-Alumnae Council had to demonstrate the overall contributions made and noteworthy accomplishments. The council’s accomplishments included hosting “meet and greets” with various alumnae chapters; participating in the Hayes-Taylor YMCA “5K Walk for the Future” to benefit youth development programs; serving as hostesses during the inaugural events for the installation of President Rosalind Fuse-Hall; assisting with the coordination of the “Pink Roses Walk Against Cancer” to raise scholarship dollars; and co-sponsoring the forum, “Saving Our Boys to Live Through It” which focused on the significance of protecting the social success of men of color.
In addition to her role as president of the Pre-Alumnae Council, Marshall was appointed to the National Pre-Alumni Board as the Eastern Regional Director. In this role, she will facilitate communication within the region, sponsor at least one regional conference, and have a vote on the National Alumni Council’s board.
