North Carolina Central University Department of Theatre and Dance will leap into its first production of the academic year with “Leap of Faith,” a play written by Janus Cercone and Warren Leight.
The play is based on a hit film of the same name that tells the story of an unscrupulous faith healer who finds unexpected love and finally sees the light.
Performances will take place at 8 p.m. Oct. 3, 4, 10, 11 and at 3 p.m. Oct. 5 and 12 in the University Theatre of the Farrison-Newton Communications Building. The Oct. 3 production is the season Opening Night Gala with black-tie attire requested.
Cercone and Leight’s screenplay became a major motion picture that was released by Paramount Pictures in 1992 and starred Steve Martin, Debra Winger, and Liam Neeson.
Additional productions planned for the 2014-2015 season include “Women in the Pit” by Joyce Sylvester; “God Spoke My Name,” a work inspired by the life of Maya Angelou; “Homegirls,” a play by Karen Evans; "Ti-Jean and his Brothers," by Derek Walcott;
Tickets for “Leap of Faith” are $16 for general admission, $11 for students, senior citizens and children ages 4 to 17. Children under 4 will not be admitted due to mature subject matter. For ticket information, call 919-530-5170.
