Dillard to Host Undergraduate Research Week, April 1-5

Exhibit and Awards Set for April 4

(New Orleans) Dillard University will host its Undergraduate Research and Creative Work Competition from April 1-5, 2013. The program will culminate on April 4, when work will be exhibited from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the atrium of the Professional Schools and Sciences Building. Faculty will present awards in the atrium at 2:30 p.m.

The theme of this year’s program is “Learning Through Research and Creative Work.” Projects will represent the fields of social science, behavioral science, and S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), as well as business applications, mass communication, and visual arts.

As part of this weeklong event, Dillard will host the Louis Stokes Louisiana Alliance for Minority Participation (LAMP) Conference on April 3 in the Professional Schools Building, rooms 131 and 135. LAMP is a National Science Foundation Alliance Program that works to increase the number and quality of minority students earning degrees in the sciences.

The Undergraduate Research and Creative Work Competition enable students to showcase their research and creative endeavors to campus and the New Orleans community. In 2010, the U.S. House of Representatives recognized the contributions of undergraduate research when it passed House Resolution 1654, which designates an annual week for considering the benefits of undergraduate research and celebrating the students, faculty and institutions that foster it.
