CIC Board Selects Talladega College President (638 hits)

The Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) today made a new appointment to their governing structure. President, Dr. Billy C. Hawkins of Talladega College was appointed to the Board of Directors.

Dr. Hawkins has been president of Talladega College since 2008. Prior to his arrival, he was the president of Texas College in Tyler, Texas from 2000-2008. His experience in education spans a 36-year successful career in both administrative and instructional roles. In 2010, Dr. Hawkins became a board member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), which is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states.

The CIC began in 1956 to support college and university leadership; advance institutional excellence; and enhance public understanding of private higher education’s contributions to society. Over the past 50 years, the CIC has grown to include more than 700 colleges, universities and organizations. The goal of the CIC is to advance independent higher education and its leadership through: serving independent colleges and universities, connecting the leaders of private liberal arts colleges and universities, promoting high-quality education, making the case for independent higher education, fostering institutional effectiveness, forming collaborations to create and strengthen programs, supporting independent colleges through State Fund Members, and listening to institutional leaders.

Dr. Hawkins remarks, “This appointment affords me the opportunity to further impact institutions on a national and international level through leadership, mentoring, and support. It is an honor to be chosen by my peers to this position where we seek to advance independent higher education.”
