Bowie State University (BSU) will launch a campaign to educate students, faculty and alumni about the importance of energy management and gain their support for a campus-wide initiative to reduce energy consumption by 20 percent over the next three years. These efforts will be made possible with a $25,000 Verizon Foundation grant.
BSU’s sustainability initiatives will include a campus ‘climate commitment’ website with related information, promoting alternative modes of transportation, implementing new technologies for energy conservation and pursuing certifications for new campus buildings that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient.
BSU’s sustainability efforts are aligned with Verizon’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and conserve energy, minimize the environmental impact of operations and find sustainable solutions that accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy.
