Former Hampton University standout Devin Green is now a member of the famed Los Angeles Lakers after being named to the 15-man roster on Saturday. Green is the first Pirates player since Rick Mahorn to make a regular-season roster in the NBA. Mahorn played 18 seasons in the league from 1980 to 1999 and was a member Detroit's 1989 championship team.
Green was signed by the Lakers as a free agent back on Sept. 6 after averaging double-figures for their summer league team. In seven preseason games he averaged 4.1 points and 2.9 rebounds per game
A four-year letterman for the Pirates, the 6-foot-7 Green made an immediate impact in his first year at Hampton, earning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year honors. He went on to finish his career in March as a two-time All-MEAC performer. He left Hampton ranking fourth all-time in scoring (1,757), second in steals (168), fifth in three-point field goals made (148) and free throws made (385).
