Rapper Cam'ron was released from Howard University Hospital yesterday afternoon, after being shot in each arm Saturday night.
In town for Homecoming festitivies, the former Roc-a-Fella records rapper encountered three unidentified men, who fired after he refused to give them his blue Lamborghini around 2:30 a.m., according to allhiphop.com,
Following the shooting, news of Cam'ron's shooting quickly filtered through campus. However, Howard personnel were unable to release conclusive information.
"The University cannot comment because [Cam'ron] was not listed as a patient," said University spokeswoman, J.J. Pryor.
Though Pryor was unable to confirm the rapper, born Cameron Giles', treatment, a Howard student who is employed by the hospital commented on a condition of anonymity. Cam'ron checked out around 3:30 p.m. yesterday, after he was cleared with blood running smoothly in both arms, according to the source.
"You could tell he was in a lot of pain and he looked mad," the student said, recalling how he went to the hospital late Saturday night, wanting to confirm news he heard of Cam'ron's Howard hospital stay. "It was a lot of students there when I got there, but he was in his own room in Emergency and they put him under an alias."
The source estimated he saw 10 to 15 students in the waiting room Saturday night. Among students who attempted to spot Cam'ron in Howard Hospital was Amanda Porter, a junior business management major, who went on Sunday evening around 5:00 to the hospital.
"A couple of [my friends and I] were talking about how much we liked Cam'ron and wondered if he was okay," she said. " We decided to go and try and see him. All they could do was say 'no.' We went on every floor trying to figure out where he was."
Allhiphop.com originally posted news of Cam'ron's shooting at 3:15 a.m. Sunday. The Diplomat Records CEO and New York native was headed to Love nightclub when the incident occurred and had been driving the Lamborghini since at least June 2005 according to the site. Porter first learned of the news from the website's alerts sent via email and text message.
Though the Howard hospital source revealed details of Cam'ron's restricted movement before he was treated, he could not reveal what alias Cam'ron registered under, or how he was escorted from the hospital.
Pryor also added that even if Cam'ron was a registered patient, the University could have not have released certain information on his condition because of laws requiring forms and waivers to be signed, before a patient's information is released.
Though students may not have been glad to hear of Cam'ron's shooting, many took advantage of his subsequent hospital stay and took a chance at seeing the rapper.
"It was tight and I am definitely going to remember that experience," Porter said. "I am glad he is okay and if I ever meet him, I will probably tell him how I tried to visit him in the hospital."
