One Million More - A Decade Later in the Life of Black America Premieres October 16 At Noon ET/PT as Historic Gathering Returns to Washington for 10th Anniversary
Washington, DC (BlackNews.com) - By all accounts, it was the largest gathering of African Americans the nation's capital had hosted since the original "March on Washington" in 1963. Now some 10 years since Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan first summoned the famed "Million Man March," BET News will chronicle the journey and reflect on the successes and failures of the movement in ONE MILLION MORE - A DECADE LATER IN THE LIFE OF BLACK AMERICA. This one-hour special hosted by BET News anchor Jacque Reid premieres on Sunday, October 16 at Noon ET/PT during the 10th anniversary observance of the historic gathering being proclaimed as the "Millions More March."
With on-scene coverage of the anniversary march; thought-provoking comments from Minister Farrakhan; interviews with participants; and retrospective packages revisiting the initial 1995 effort, BET News will capture the emotion and inspiration assembled once again in the name of community. Black America's youth will also take center stage as "Cousin" Jeff Johnson, host of BET's THE COUSIN JEFF CHRONICLES, travels along side some young people making their trek to the march. BET News reporter Sharon Carpenter will add the march's point of view from the hip-hop world in a conversation with rapper/producer Kanye West; and hip-hop legend Russell Simmons weighs in on today's critical issues.
As a prelude to Sunday's documentary, BET News will also televise updates from the many speeches, expressions and discussions during Saturday's march at 11:10 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:10 p.m. and 4:10 p.m. ET/PT.
