PROFESSION: Politician
First African American to hold post of Attorney General of the state of Massachusetts. First African American to be elected to US Senate after Reconstruction. Only one to be re-elected after Reconstruction also. Served in the US Army as a Captain. Was first Senator to call for former President Nixon's resignation. A courthouse is dedicated in his honor in Massachusetts.
