Served as President of the National Association of Colored Women. Was Director of Negro Affairs in the National Youth Administration. Was VP of NAACP. Founder of the National Council of Negro Women. Was consultant to US Secretary of War for selecting the first female officer candidate. Served as consultant under numerous US Presidents. First African American woman to serve as head of a federal agency, Director of the Division of Negro Affairs." Barber-Scotia College was formerly named Scotia Seminary.
