Looting after Hurricane Katrina (124 hits)

I can write a book on how sickened I was to see people looting and acting a fool preying upon a tragedy that has affected and killed an untold amount of people.
Yes I am bold enough to say it ticks me off to see a people sitting on their behinds too sorry to do anything for themselves but can summon up the energy to carry away large weights of stolen merchandise for attempeted self gain at the plights of others.
There are elderly, babies etc. sitting on roofs clinging for life and in need of volunteers and you have sorry folk going around stealing people's stuff.
I wondered as how they showed only black people. Are there any other races of people looting.
I am not racist, but I have intrigue.
Furthermore, who are the looters going to sell anything to? Most of New Orleans is wiped out as well as parts of Mississippi, Alabama and parts north of those areas. People would have to realize no job, where did you get the stuff from.
Who is going to be able to get into those areas to buy that water logged stuff?
With gas, electricity, food running out etc., what are they going to do with it? Where do you store it? They have to figure that they will get caught with the stuff and they (those with brilliant minds), don't think about the fact that they are caught on tape?!
There is much to talk about on this subject area.
Love to hear your bright intellectual minds on this subject, help me gain more perspective on this mess.
"God" Bless
Sincerely
William

All they show is black homeless looking people stealing and standing in line for food, like they are tryna say "the white folk the only folk that knew to get out of town" it was bothering me a little, but i lthought i was over reacting, but i glad i am not the only one who notice it. About the looting man, ok i figure people were taking what they needed. some had food and water blankets to sleep on and shoes because it is dangerous to walk around bare footed. Now i really dont see anything wrong with that they have nothing, but what concerns me (like i mentioned in a previous blog) is them hurting each other. the rapes, shooting, and stealing from each other why at a time like this would you want to hurt each other. Just my thoughts

Hey Sis, I agree with you 100%, desperation for hunger for self and for others is one thing, but the violence, shooting, etc. is just people taking advantage of others, especially us as a people. And they keep showing us, is it just us? If it is, it is a new sad low in the plights of black history. Appreciate the knowledge that you share thus so true about wisdom from the eyes of babes. Thank you Sis.

Hello Ms. Brittany:
Appreciate the comments.
In my article I understand a need to survive, feed, protect, clothe etc.
I know the media depicts many things.
But I am talking about young people going into people's houses to loot while elderly, women and children are sitting on roofs, I'm talking about a police officer that was shot in the head, I'm talking about hospitals having to move hurt, injured and dying men, wone, elderly and CHILDREN to upper floors because looters were trying to rob the sick, I'm talking about all the college students here who have mothers, fathers, cousins, brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends etc. who are in need of help, one family was saying people were stealing from them (and they had babies also).
Respectfully tell me that if it is someone close to you that is robbed and then come tell me it's ok because they needed it.
I came from the ghetto and streets also. The same folks that are looting steal anyway, if you know about the projects that you mention, so they are doing now what they did then.
Of course it is not all.
If I were there i would be going into grocerie stores also as the older black lady was doing to get orange juice and sugar packets for people.
That whole city is going to take a concerted effort by all people.
So as my article reads and most others see, my focus is on those who are hurting other folks for self gain.
The same people are hindering efforts to help the people in your area.
You would make a great lawyer for them.
Appreciate your comments, time, kindness etc.
I commend you for speaking out Sis.
Never let anyone take taht from you if you feel your convictions are correct.
I have my stance, you have yours. We both mean well for people. The truth and answers lie in between.
"God" Bless
Sincerely
William

Hey Alexcia:
I have to admit the truth. When one speaks out, one should expect ohter opinions that come with it.
I appreciate the addition of your time and sharing.
I heard about Kanye's comments and also Pdiddy(I get confused with all the names!) and another singer that I can not recall prsently stood together. With the repoire of other races of people, I was surprised that Puff spoke out and I commend him.
When I 1st heard Kanye's comments, I immediately took his side and commended him.
That took a lot of boldness and courage and a huge heart to risk backlash from people which others would have worried about $$$$ 1st.
My standing applause.
Also I was emailed that article.
Of course that is how we are negatively protrayed. This has been since the dawn of time for us as a people.
I luv the extra dimension you add in reference to what inknown conditions can do to people. I get what you are respectfully saying to me and others, "If you have not been in those shoes....".
I can say this LilSis, If you read my profile and the things I say, I won't disrespect anyone that has been through that terror, but I know when I was living on the streets as a kid, was hungry, sleeping in abandoned buildings and cars, etc.etc.etc., being in the field in the Army, yes I did things like steal for food. I do not condemn myself for stealing to survive. But..... I went to the affluent side of the neighborhood, no that was not Katrina conditions, but for me at that time of my life........
I ws not in the storm, but i have plenty of emails from people of all walks of life who were.
excuses are rampaging, right is right and wrong is wrong based on the principles (hope I am clear here).
My heart would not leave a elderly woman or child on a roff even if I did steal whatever. I would not rape, I would not rob the innocent in need if you feeln me.
It is not in me to do. Now if i did do that, someone would be for, against or neutral about me (which is still a decision).
I am answering as best I can Sis considering conditions I can not fathom.
I can tell you this with all my heart and being, "If it were you and I don't know you, I know that I would help.
As a matter of fact the good "Lord' sent news my way to test the truth of what I say, there is a Church meeting at a Church tonight at 7p.m. I plan to attend and I hope volunteers are going down to your area.
I wanna do my part instead of just sitting back here and enjoying luxury, writing and talking and not putting up and shutting up myself.
Everyone needs to do something.
I am a Mental Health Counselor that believes in "God' as the base, so i feel those skills can be used and stretched to help down there.
I have a whole lot of practise of putting myself in a persons shoes, I have been there on multiple sides.
I have dealt with all kinds of mental insanity that as you say, until a person has been through that particuylar experience.
Alexcia even when I was on the streets, I ran with some ruthles people, people that are in jail for things from dope, to rape to murder. They looked out for me. There was still some honor out there on the streets. I know that was yesteryear.
But when I hear of untold horrors to be told that are still developing, when I hear of what went on in that Super Dome etc.
Where is the fine line between right and wrong Sis?
I felt you, now equal communication (I know you understand about what I say hear) wants you to hear me although it is not a rule for anybody to hear anybody else. Those are rights.
"God" Bless
Feel free not to be a stranger.
You be safe Sis, for if anything "God" forbid were to happen to you, any of your friends, family, associates etc. I would come with even more strength, because I have met your acquaintance.
I would not accept any excuses.
"God" Bless and send my Luv to all at Dillard U.
All HBCU's are family.
