Wilberforce University is a Top Priority for Baltimore Alumni (2681 hits)

The Greater Baltimore Chapter, Wilberforce University Alumni Association is joining in with other Alumni across the nation to move swiftly to aid Wilberforce University. On Saturday, April 18, 2009, the 12th Annual Green and Gold Scholarship Breakfast will be held at the Forum Caterers, 4210 Primrose Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21215.

Wilberforce University, in Wilberforce, Ohio, was established in 1856 and is the first university owned and operated by African-Americans. The university was named after the British Abolitionist William Wilberforce. He was an exceptional man, whose ideals sparked the abolitionist movement in the United States and inspired men such as Frederick Douglass.

Today, many of Wilberforce University’s primary revenue streams, including private giving, endowment revenue and tuition, have been significantly impacted by a hemorrhaging economy.

The 12th Annual Green and Gold Scholarship Breakfast serves as an occasion to aid in the financial stability of Wilberforce University. It also gives recognition to the contributions of individuals and organizations that continue to support the missive of excellence in education.

This year’s honorees are Baltimore City Comptroller Joan Pratt, Reverend Charles Baugh, Pastor of Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church, and the Baltimore Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Be a part of this initiative to support Wilberforce University on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Forum Caterers, 4210 Primrose Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21215. Proceeds from this event will support students from the Maryland area who attend the University, as well as assist with the financial needs of Wilberforce University.

Friends, individuals and businesses can help Wilberforce University by sponsoring the event, purchasing an advertisement, or purchasing a table. Tickets are $30 each.

Please make checks or money orders payable to Wilberforce University Greater Baltimore Chapter. Mail to: Wilberforce University, c/o 2110 Meadowview Drive, Baltimore, Maryland 21207-5315. All contributions are tax deductible. Your support is appreciated.
