Joy Turner - an accomplished musician, vocalist and composer - is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. Her gifts and musical talents were cultivated and nurtured in this diverse city as she performed locally under the tutelage of some of the best musicians and private instructors from the most prominent institutions in Baltimore including Peabody Conservatory, Baltimore School of the Arts and the Eubie Blake Cultural Arts Center.
Having mastered the art of songwriting, Joy has embarked on a new endeavor with her first published book, Content…Right Where I Am. Her passion for creative arts - coupled with her desire to serve God and encourage others - is what inspired her to complete this book. A Christ-centered young woman, Joy is walking in her purpose and living in contentment despite the many challenges and obstacles that she has faced in life.
One of her greatest responsibilities is being a “Mommy” to her son. As a single parent, Joy realizes the challenges and the joys that come along with being accountable to someone other than herself. She believes strongly in the institution of family and values the support she receives from immediate and extended family members. Joy is the only sister among four loving brothers and the only daughter to her parents who continue to support her endeavors while keeping her grounded and humble.
Joy is already at work on several new writing projects. One is a book on praise and worship and music in the church. The other is a book on the topic of depression. Joy discovered through her own trials and tribulation that she has a burden to speak to young women and girls regarding issues that hinder contentment and self development. She anticipates that many of her readers and supporters will come from all walks of life, from all different persuasions and even have varying beliefs.
Joy believes that when you find something good, you just can’t keep it to yourself. She attributes her achievements and success to her relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jesus remains “the center” of her joy and with that, Joy boldly and confidently claims, “I am content… right where I am!”
