The Justice of Fratricide (3585 hits)

Election to the office of the Presidency of these United States is a bitterly fought and hard won victory in the most amicable circumstances, and the final determination being made by the legislature or court is as American as formaldehyde ridden FEMA trailers. Before our nation’s twenty-fifth birthday, Aaron Burr and Thomas Jefferson were embroiled in a battle so bitter it required six days and 36 votes for the House to resolve in Jefferson’s favor.

Corrupt Bargains and questionable backroom deals are by no means modern Republican tactics either; it was shady dealings in the election of John Quincy Adams and the naming of Henry Clay Speaker of the House that led to the formation of the Democratic Party by Andrew Jackson. And of course race has long been a source of contention and duplicity in American Politics. Rutherford B. Hayes went to bed, election night 1876, believing he had lost the election, but shenanigans in Florida made the election impossible to call. Congress entered the fray in December and formed a 15-member committee that ultimately awarded Florida, Louisiana, Oregon, South Carolina and there-by the Presidency to Hayes who had lost in a landslide. This deception signaled the end to Reconstruction.

The 2000 contest between George Bush and Al Gore marked the height of electoral chaos. Gore conceded then recanted and the whole issue hung on a Chad and an arguable biased Supreme Court Decision. The suits were all based on Barack Obama’s eligibility to be President; the Supreme Court will release their ruling Monday on the lawsuit filed by Pennsylvania attorney Phillip Berg. The challenge seeks to force a narrow definition of “natural-born”; a term often used but never defined in the Constitution or any ensuing Federal Document. The contention is that because Obama’s father was a Kenyan national More

I hear ya, but I don't feel like we can or should seperate ourselves one from another. Agree or disagree we are one people, one humanity and as such interconnected and interdependant. My brother, we are only as strong as our weakest link, I am disappointed and frustrated by the actions/words of some of OUR most visible, but it ain't no we vs. they issue. Uncle Clarence and Alan Keyes and far too many more are we.
