Evening High School Credit Program--Adult, Continuing Education, and Workforce Development

About the Program

The Adult, Continuing Education, and Workforce Development at Oakton College operates the Evening High School Program held at Maine South High School. Classes meet Monday through Thursday from 5:45 to 9:45 p.m., September through May. The program serves students aged 17 and older who reside within Oakton College's attendance area and have withdrawn from their day high schools and seek to earn their high school diploma.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Evening HS Coordinator helps direct, promote, and coordinate the Evening High School Program. The role includes co-leading nightly operations, supporting instructional staff and counselors, ensuring compliance, and advancing student retention and completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on-site lead during in-person nights: open/close, staff check-in, student intake, and issue resolution.
  • Conduct individual transcript reviews and develop clear graduation plans for each student.
  • Advise and enroll students in the appropriate courses each term; monitor alignment of prerequisites and graduation requirements.
  • Communicate progress, credit needs, and next steps to students, families, and day-school contacts (Student and Family Services, counselors, and registrars).
  • Build, publish, and maintain the program master schedule (sections, staffing, rooms).
  • Balance seat capacity, teacher assignments, and room utilization.
  • Provide real-time academic advising to students and on-the-spot support to teachers.
  • Implement behavior interventions and restorative practices consistent with school policies
  • Monitor attendance and safety; coordinate with security and office support.
  • Collaborate with administrators, registrars, and counselors at partner high schools to recruit eligible students and verify credits toward graduation requirements.
  • Oversee intake/assessment for accurate placement; ensure compliance with ISBE/ICCB guidelines.
  • Develop and monitor retention strategies; track student progress and intervene early.
  • Recruit, interview, select, assign, supervise, and evaluate part-time instructors and counselors.
  • Direct data collection; prepare required reports and proposals.
  • Reporting Structure Reports to the Evening High School Director and Manager of Adult Education & Transitions; provides functional supervision to part-time instructors, counselors, security personnel, and office support staff.


Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating the required knowledge and abilities required.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Classroom, Meet) required.
  • PEL or Principal endorsement preferred.
  • Five (5) years of successful high school teaching and/or counseling preferred.
  • Demonstrated success working with at-risk learners who have experienced barriers to success preferred.
  • Advising/counseling background preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience developing high school curriculum preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with Student and Family Services (SFS) processes and teams preferred

Schedule & Compensation

  • Part-time up to 19 hours per week ? Hybrid schedule Maine South High School & remote
  • September-May
  • Typical on-site hours 5:00-9:45 p.m. (includes setup/close).
  • Compensation: $50/hour
  • Start date: ASAP
