Human Genetics Physician Opportunity

Staff Physician at multiple levels to provide outpatient and call services to Human Genetics patients.

To provide safe and effective medical care to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center patients. To contribute toward the advancement of clinical patient care and outcomes by following care guideline and treatment protocols for infant, children and adolescent patients and to aid in their mental and physical growth and development. May elect to participate in the training and education of residents, fellows and other learners.

The Genetics Laboratories in the Division of Human Genetics (DHG) are well-equipped, expanding CLIA and CAP certified clinical laboratories. The laboratories perform testing for inherited diseases and somatic alterations including well-established collaborative diagnostic programs for more than two hundred different disorders and conditions. DHG has an ABMGG accredited training program for Medical Genetics and Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (as of July 2017). DHG also has a masters training program for genetic counselors administered jointly with The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Representative Responsibilities

Patient Care - Perform direct patient care of pediatric patients within the scope of the medical license, education and experience. Consistently contributes toward the advancement of clinical patient care and improved outcomes. Examine patients to determine presence of disease and to establish preventive health practices. Determine nature and extent of disease or injury, prescribe and administer medications and immunizations.

Perform procedures, collect data, analyze data and make decisions regarding patient care, including initial screening, assessment, diagnosis, prognosis, care, reassessment and discontinuation of care. May formulate, maintain, support, monitor and modify a patient-specific plan for care, treatment and rehabilitation based on the patient's assessment. May also plan and coordinate care, treatment and rehabilitation for discharged patients. If a subspecialist, works to establish a local or regional referral base.

Clinical Excellence - Participates in ongoing educational activities for continued enhancement of clinical expertise.

Effective Communication - Provide for the exchange of appropriate patient care and clinical information when patients are admitted, referred, transferred or discharged. Provide data which will contribute to the assessment of a patient's needs, the organization's capability to provide care or treatment and the appropriate level of care.

Training and Education - Participates in the training and education of medical students, residents, fellows, faculty, community physicians and/or staff. Attends clinical rounds, medical lectures, grand rounds, and other conferences, as assigned.

Education/Experience
Required:


Staff Physician 2
Doctor of Medicine OR Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine OR equivalent
Unrestricted licensed physician
Approval/credentialing from CCHMC Medical Staff Services Division
2 years related experience
Preferred:
Board certification in pediatrics
Adv Cardiovascular Life Support
CPR
Skill in physical assessment, diagnosis, well-child care, and illness management.

Staff Physician 3
Doctor of Medicine OR Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine OR equivalent.
Unrestricted licensed physician
Approval/credentialing from CCHMC Medical Staff Services Division
5 years related experience at the Staff Physician Level 2 or equivalent external experience

Preferred:
Board certification in pediatrics
Adv Cardiovascular Life Support
CPR


Skill in physical assessment, diagnosis, well-childcare, and illness management.

Development: Knowledge of growth and development
Family-centered care: Understands and support family-centered care
Clinical Knowledge Specialty: Professional knowledge and clinical ability sufficient to provide evaluation and treatment of complex patients in one or more specialty areas


Path/Pharm: Knowledge of pathophysiology and pharmacology


Clinical Education: Knowledge and skill in patient and/or family education

Professional Knowledge/Ability: Professional knowledge and ability sufficient to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the position


Decisive Leadership: Taking responsibility for guiding others' actions and providing direction to a group; stepping forward to take the lead in addressing complex issues and making tough judgment calls


Research Methods - Basic Working knowledge of research methods, including measurement, data collection, and validity issues


Communication: Excellent verbal, written and/or interpersonal communication skills
