Educating African Americans At HBCU's (355 hits)
Educating African Americans at HBCU’s Greetings ladies and gentlemen. My name is Mark jarrett. Today I want to give the root behind educating African Americans in Historical Black College Universities. What is the purpose of HBCU’s pertaining to the African American? How should An HBCU educate its African American Students? What can be done to educate African Americans to their full potential? These are the questions we must ask ourselves concerning HBCUs, it is important to understand the factors that build and destroy a civilization. Life is like a sun dial, you must use knowledge to know what time it is. Without self knowledge you are consciously diagnosed with amnesia. These victims of Amnesia are such because they have lost a sense of self awareness. They don’t know where they are going, they don’t know why they are here, and the most importantly, they don’t know who they are. The majority of African Americans have become Subject to this form of amnesia. The human being that has sparked the dawn of civilization has now forgotten who they are, and has become subject to the ills of humanity because of a lack of knowledge. This is why A “proper” education in black America is vital. It is needed to restore the elements that lie dormant within us all to unlock our hidden potential. One of the most important factors that contribute to the unlocking of your potential is Your History, not only does it give you self awareness but it gives you a foundation on which to build upon that no one can take away. There is an ancient Egyptian proverb; it reads “Know the world in yourself, never look for yourself in the world, for this would be to project your illusion”. When your foundation is built upon truth no one can tear it down, but if it is built upon lies it will surely fall. When educating African Americans in HBCU’s they should be given a true sense of history and a Foundation on which to build their present and future lives. Three main elements that should be the main focus of HBCU’s are History, Culture and Development. People are more motivated and inspired engaging in anything relating to who they are because it gives them Understanding and another piece in the puzzle bringing them closer to self realization. Self realization is realizing who and what you actually are in order to accomplish the impossible, and this is what we did in the past when we built monuments that stood since the times of old and can be done again with a proper education. When a nation has been downgraded from second class citizens to third class citizens there is a problem. When you have the majority of Students who think that they are inferior to others because of the texture of their hair is a problem. Each human being has more than one body, 3 of the main bodies are the mental, physical, and emotional body. If you hate or deny any one component of one of those bodies, it effects and sets boundaries on the others. In ancient times, People from all over the world came to study at black universities in North Africa; these were 40 year Institutions where they learned the science of who they were in relation to arithmetic, math, medicine, astronomy, ext. Some major figures bred from these institutions came to be some major figures in History. Some names that you all may be familiar with in history class like “Socrates, Plato, Pythagoras, Hippocrates, and many others”. If it wasn’t for their education, they wouldn’t be known today for their works. Marcus Garvey once said “A people without their past, History, origin and culture are like Trees without Leaves.” You ever see a tree with no leaves? Doesn’t it look dead? HBCU’s to wake up and educate our people on the knowledge of self, to bring life to Black America. If one wants to educate black America, they must have the passion to do so. HBCU’s must hire HBCU material. We must dedicate to Educate. How will HBCU’s prepare College students to set their mark in History? When educating students at HBCU’s it is important that every subject is relevant to them and their lives, this is what gains interest in the classrooms. Self awareness, or history is the motivation that will push the African American to excel in math, science, English, literature, ext. People who have no self value will do nothing to value themselves and will do everything that will destroy themselves. According to biblical text, we find that Moses didn’t think he could save the Israelites from bondage, he was scared he was unconfident, but when God said “don’t worry about it bruh” I got you; Moses went and did what he had to do and accomplished the impossible. God showed him who he was and what his purpose was, he like you all were destined for greatness. In conclusion, the African American must have a true knowledge of who he/or she is in order to achieve all things. It is only when you have learned and studied yourself that you know what you can do. I’m not saying that all HBCU’s don’t educate our people to their full potential, I am saying that this is one of the biggest Factors missing from our self development as descendants of the greatest civilizations on this planet. HBCU’s must live up to their name; let’s not have our ancestors who shed their own blood to turn in their graves due to a lack of self knowledge. I leave you with a lyric from nas and I quote: I know I can (I know I can) Be what I wanna be (be what I wanna be) If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it) I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be) If the truth is told, the youth can grow Then learn to survive until they gain control Nobody says you have to be gangstas, hoes Read more learn more, change the globe Peace and light. ...
