Just Sayin - September 6, 2008 (1759 hits)

Wassup ya’ll? Whether your Saturday errands are run and you’re hangin for fun or you’re just passing through ‘cause you’ve got more to do, thanks for stopping by Just Sayin.

I told my husband that corny little welcome line reminded me of his jokes; he conceded a may-be but added, “it sounds more like the ‘Beverly Hillbillies,” Second time today I’ve heard about hillbillies; some of my favorite folks, including me, have hillbilly tendencies. Ya’ll know, since this campaign the instances of serious race conversation have multiplied exponentially, and that’s a good thing. Some of the dialog is really disturbing though. Is Barack black or white? My hand is scarred from the day a little black girl dug her nails in and pulled. Why? She wanted to know, “do you bleed black or white?” My black mother loved the Grand Ole Opry and insisted I attend an exclusive girl’s prep school. My white father took me to the hood, introduced me to Little Milton and Bobby Blue Bland. He bought me “Soul on Ice” and “For Black Girls…” So, does that make me black or white? We still have deep rooted racism issues amongst ourselves; that house and field thing is alive, well and still dividing us. Whoopi told Michelle Obama, that morning on The View, how happy she was to see an articulate, well-dressed, dark-skinned sister, with all her teeth, in the limelight. What does that say about the way we relate to each other and the face in the mirror. BTW: Herman (my husband) had a collection issue with one of his customers lately; the man threatened him. None of the black men in our circle were “available” to get his back; it was a Tennessee redneck, I lovingly call Hillbilly, that, without hesitation, stood with him. “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” What were we just celebrating? Community News

Wednesday morning, September 3rd, God called Robin Gooden’s momma home. She asked us to, “Please pray for all who are heavy-hearted at this time.” Let our sister know you are praying for and with her.

Shout Outs

First off, I’m so excited ya’ll my beautiful baby girl has joined the network. She posted her picture and it brought tears to my eyes. When she came into my life, she didn’t have that beaming smile; she was too bound to even look up. Lesley has so much to give, and I guess you can tell I’m proud of her. Please make her feel welcome ya’ll.

My View of the News

Have you heard the Treasury Department is poised to bailout Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I don’t know enough about mortgage banking or the current crisis to offer an insightful view, but I know this is far from good. Some of you Real Estate and Banking divas out there give us the 411 please.

A Provocative Question

“A teacher said to his student, "we have two major problems in this country, Ignorance and Apathy, which is the bigger issue?"

The student replied, "I don't know and I don't care." Maria Bridges wonders in Apathy and Ignorance if that quote sums up the challenges facing our country and our world today. What do you think.

That's what his birth certificate says. It's a long convoluted story, but fear not I'll get it all out eventually. LOL
