For over 35 years, Honda has been more than just a leading automotive brand—it’s been a committed partner in celebrating and uplifting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). One of the most powerful expressions of this commitment is the
Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC), a nationwide academic competition that brings together top students from HBCUs across the country.
We recently sat down with Jasmine Cockfield, an HBCU alumna from Jackson State University and Project Leader for Honda Campus All-Star Challenge and Honda Battle of the Bands, to discuss the 2025 HCASC event and the lasting legacy Honda continues to build through its long-term support of HBCU communities.

More Than a Game
The HCASC, now in its 35th year, brings together students from over 60 HBCUs to compete in a fast-paced quiz bowl-style tournament that tests knowledge across history, science, literature, pop culture, and more. But for many students, it’s about more than winning—it’s about connection, pride, and opportunity.
Cockfield, who is also a graduate of an HBCU, emphasized how meaningful the experience is for students and alumni alike. “You see students walk away from this event not just inspired—but changed. It validates their excellence and connects them with others who look like them and share similar goals.”
Deep Roots in the HBCU Community
Honda’s relationship with HBCUs runs deep. The company doesn’t just fund the HCASC and Honda Battle of the Bands (HBOB); it’s also actively involved in creating opportunities for internships, scholarships, and long-term career development.

What makes these programs even more impactful is how they are staffed and supported by Black professionals within Honda—many of whom are HBCU graduates themselves. “We bring that authenticity,” she explained. “When students come to HCASC or HBOB, they see people from their own communities, in leadership positions, making real decisions.”
A Launchpad for the Future
Beyond the spotlight of the competition stage, HCASC functions as a gateway for students to connect with professionals, explore career opportunities, and build lasting networks.
