McDonald's Presents One of Four $10,000.00 scholarships facilitated by Thurgood Marshall College Fund (2954 hits)

The rain didn’t stop Tennessee State University sophomore Rachelle Brown from winning big at the 29th annual Southern Heritage Classic. Rachelle received the first of four $10,000 McDonald’s True to the HBCU scholarships, facilitated by Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF). While maintaining a 3.8 grade point average, the Memphis native actively services in her community by sorting and packaging food at the Second Harvest Food Bank in Nashville, Tennessee, collecting supplies for homeless women and victims of natural disasters in the Virgin Islands, and served as a reading volunteer with Smart Baby an organization promoting childhood literacy to children.

“I chose to attend an HBCU, for the rich education, both inside and outside the classroom. I wanted to go to a college that would encourage me to step outside of my comfort zone and provide me with an atmosphere designed to promote excellence.” - Rachelle Brown

McDonald’s is celebrating History, Heritage and Legacy at HBCU Classics across the country as a part of our True to the HBCU program. Next up, the brand will continue demonstrating its commitment to the HBCU community by traveling to The Magic City Classic in Birmingham, Ala. on October 27th and The Florida Blue Florida Classic in Orlando, Fla. On November 17th.
