Registration is now is open for ASU's Piano for Children program
WHEN: Oct. 4 - Nov. 30
WHERE: ASU's Tullibody Music Building.
The “Piano for Children” program in the Department of Music at Alabama State University will offer piano lessons to children ages 6 to 12 years-old beginning Oct. 4.
Classes for beginners will be held on Tuesdays and intermediate classes are on Wednesdays; both days at 5 p.m.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for young students to explore the world of piano playing with professional musicians at a reasonable price,” said
Dr. Michael Zelenak, coordinator of ASU's Music Education Program.
“Although not a replacement for private instruction, it is a gateway through which children can be exposed to piano playing and determine if they have an interest to pursue further study," he added.
Designed for young pianists, the Beginning Class will develop students’ musical skills related to rhythm and pitch, as well as introduce them to basic techniques in playing the piano and reading music notation. Intermediate students will develop their music skills and move forward into a more challenging repertoire.
The classes will culminate with a recital performance on Nov. 30, at 6 p.m.at the Tullibody Music Building Recital Hall.
“All students will perform in a recital with a grand piano,” said Zelenak. “Everyone is welcome to attend. It is a great way for families and friends to celebrate the accomplishments of these young musicians.”
Parents and their young pianists’ orientation is on Monday, Oct. 3, at 5 p.m. in ASU Tullibody Recital Hall.
The cost for the eight-week program is $99 per student. Deadline for registration is Oct. 3, and space is limited.
