Alabama State University Professor Wins National Cancer Research Award! (743 hits)

The director of Alabama State University's Cancer Biology Research and Training Program (CBRT) has won the 2016 American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Minority-Serving Institution Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research Award from the American Association for Cancer Research.

ASU's Dr. Manoj Mishra will receive the award he won at the AACR annual meeting, which will be held in New Orleans from April 16 - 20.
Alabama State's CBRT currently conducts research on prostate, breast and colorectal cancer. In the last couple of years, CBRT faculty under Mishra's leadership have been awarded millions of dollars in federal grants to conduct cancer research at ASU.

“This recognition brings ASU and our own CBRT program to the national and global map in cancer research, especially in prostate cancer area,” Mishra said. “This also will encourage our students to consider training in cancer research on ASU’s campus.”
The long-term objectives and research goals of ASU’s Cancer Center are to reduce health disparities in cancer.

Mishra's award is presented annually to scientists at the level of assistant professor or above at a minority-serving institution, who are engaged in meritorious basic, clinical or translational cancer research.

The award program seeks to increase the scientific knowledge base of faculty members at minority-serving institutions, and to encourage them and their students to pursue careers in cancer research.
