Across the country, there is an apparent disdain for HBCUs and members -- students, officials, and advocates -- of its community alike. The relevance of our existence is often questioned. The value of our education is often challenged. Even ones consideration to join our flock is discouraged. With the preceding in mind, it is now more important than ever to unite to Promote & Preserve Our Roots!
If you are interested in finding avenues to join in the fight for the survival of our institutions, you are invited to attend "An HBCU Symposium: Promoting & Preserving Our Roots" at Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens, FL, where it's always sunny -- even in February. The Symposium will commence on the evening of Wednesday February 10, 2016 and conclude the evening of Friday February 12, 2016.
Over the course of the Symposium, we will address topics that are vital to the HBCU Community in assurance of the promotion and preservation of #OurHBCURoots, among the many are: Alumni Advocacy, Community Involvement, Online & Distance Learning, Financial Literacy, Accreditation, Study Abroad, Diversity, Internship & Fellowships, Tolerance, Recruitment Methods, and Retention Efforts, all as they apply to HBCUs.
The Symposium will consist of a multiple array of powerhouse session-types (including, but not limited to: plenaries, seminars, forums, panels, lectures, and presentations) moderated and hosted by prominent advocates and professionals of the HBCU Community, including HBCU Students, Graduates, Faculty, Staff, and Administrators. By the adjournment of the Symposium, we are sure that a flame will be ignited in the hearts and minds of every attendee to join the fight for the fate of our beloved institutions.
Registration for the Symposium will be opened soon. The Symposium is specifically targeted at current HBCU Undergraduate and Graduate Students; however, other members of the HBCU Community (officials, advocates, faculty and staff) are welcomed to attend, as there will be a plethora of topics discussed and addressed that are sure to benefit anyone in attendance.
The Sympsoim is presented by Club 1964, Inc. a nonprofit organization dedicated to the redemption and restoration of Historically Black Colleges and Universities by increasing application, admission, retention, and graduation rates of Model HBCU Scholars and Graduates via the establishment of a Grade School-to-HBCU-Pipeline.
The Calls for Panelists, Presenters, Speakers, and Sponsors are still open, please contact Marquise McGriff, Symposium Convener at Marquise.McGriff@club1964.org for more information.
To join the mailing list and be among the first "in the know," please email the Symposium Staff at OurHBCURoots@club1964.org
