World Renowned Vocalist and Educator, Jolie Rocke Brown, Joins Texas Southern University Staff (1457 hits)

Professional vocalist Jolie Rocke Brown, a soprano, has joined the TSU faculty as a visiting professor of Music for the fall semester. Committed to passing on her passion for performance technique by educating future generations, Rocke Brown will be teaching voice lessons, opera workshop, fine arts and daily living, as well as working with Department of Music Interim Chair Dr. Jason Oby on developing an outreach recruitment program to high school students.

Rocke Brown’s classical music training includes an undergraduate degree in music from the University of Hartford’s Hartt School, graduate work at Loyola College, and doctoral studies at the University of Connecticut.  She is known for her soul-stirring renditions of hymns, spirituals, gospel and jazz that linger with audiences far beyond the vibrations of the last note. Her talents have taken her from a Carnegie Weil Recital Hall debut to spotlight performances with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, four Connecticut opera companies to European tours with New York Harlem Theatre, Houston Ebony Opera, Italy's Studio Lirico, and most recently Far North Queensland Australia. In addition to performances that traverse Europe from France, Spain, Belgium, and Italy, to Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and Switzerland, she is a featured favorite at several historic Connecticut churches. Her stellar accomplishments as both performer and music educator prompted her appointment as the Executive Director of the Hartford Conservatory.

In addition to her responsibilities as an instructor at TSU, Mrs. Rocke Brown will be establishing a private voice studio in Houston and continuing her international performing career.
