Per the Associated Press, police and college officials said a person wielding a knife stabbed three Morgan State football players in a fight that broke out on campus Tuesday.
Two groups of students clashed outside a Morgan State dining hall, with an unnamed suspect "wildly" swinging a knife, according to university spokesman Clint Coleman. Though one of the victims was stabbed in the chest and taken to the hospital, both Coleman and police said none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
A suspect has since been taken into custody. None of the players injured have been identified.
Per the Baltimore Sun, Coleman suggested Tuesday's incident may have been connected to fighting that broke out at a widely-attended campus dance Saturday. That event -- per the Sun, the first of its kind following a one-year moratorium put in place to prevent previous similar incidents -- drew 1,200 attendees before having to be broken up by police.
"This is not Morgan!" president David Wilson wrote in an email to students Tuesday, per the AP. The fights followed quickly on the heels of an incident Friday in which a Morgan State student stabbed his roommate with scissors over a dorm room argument.
Tuesday was the opening day of Morgan State's spring football practice. The FCS Bears went 7-6 last season, sharing the MEAC title and earning a trip to the FCS playoffs.
