Having already lived in six different states in her young lifetime – including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, California, Georgia, and Alabama – it’s not surprising that when it came time to choose a college, Alanna Humphrey was not at all hesitant about moving to yet another location.
During her search she applied to 13 different colleges, and along with her mother and an aunt, actually visited four (including three HBCU’s). But it was at Xavier that she immediately fell in love – with the city, with the campus, with the friendly atmosphere. The University’s record for placing African Americans into medical school sealed the deal. The only obstacle in her way, financial resources, was removed when the University came through with a full-ride Board of Trustees Scholarship to cover her tuition, room and board, books, and fees.
