How to Join a Twitter Party For starters, you need a Twitter account to join the party. A person doesn’t need an invitation to come to the party. Attending your first Twitter party can seem a bit overwhelming. Usually lots of people are "at" the party and the conversation can be fast-and-furious. Imagine a couple of hundred people all talking to each other at the same time (yikes!). Here are some of our tips for learning the ropes and making a Twitter party a fun and meaningful experience.
- If you don’t have a Twitter account, go to http://www.twitter.com and create a "handle" for yourself. You’ll need a unique email account for each handle you want to create.
- A Twitter party is easier to "follow" in one of a handful of programs specifically designed for Twitter (we like TweetChat, Tweetdeck, or Tweetgrid). You can do a search for these pregrams on the internet and download them. You may want to view a "how to" tutorial on using these programs.
- Every tweet in a Twitter party must contain a hashtag (or the pound symbol: #) and a unique word. Without the #word, your tweet is not part of the party conversation. The Lexus Verses & Flow Twitter Party with Laz Alonso and Maxwell uses #versesandflow
- Know your Twitter party start time, paying attention to the time zone. People in New York and California come to the same party, even though some people are closer to dinner and others are closer to bed. the Twitter Party start time is 5PM Eastern/ 2PM Pacific.
- If some of your Twitter friends are coming to the party, try to follow their Twitter handles ahead of time. This way you can send them direct messages (called a "DM") and they can respond. You can also spend more time enjoying the party and making new friends. So be sure to follow @_Maxwell_, @lazofficial and @lexus to maximize your experience.
