NASCAR'S "RACE 4 THE MIC" WINNER TO SING NATIONAL ANTHEM
NASCAR's "Race 4 the Mic" winner - Monica Brown
Daytona Beach, FL (BlackNews.com) - NASCAR's "Race 4 the Mic" winner Monica Brown will sing the national anthem before Bud Pole Qualifying for the Daytona 500 on Sunday, February 13. Brown, a sophomore at Claflin University in South Carolina, beat four other finalists in last week's competition held at North Carolina A&T State University.
NASCAR's "Race 4 the Mic" was an "American Idol" style competition which included contestants from Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Contestants were judged in several categories, including stage presence, voice and attitude. Among the judges was Warner Brothers recording artist Jaheim. For winning the competition, Brown received an all expense paid trip to Daytona Beach to sing the anthem. In addition, she will receive a one-on-one artist development session with Mauldin Brand Agency.
"Race 4 the Mic is one of many NASCAR events held to celebrate Black History Month," said Tish Sheets, NASCAR Directory of Diversity and Special Projects.
