Talladega President Dr. Billy Hawkins has been recognized for his excellence in education. The National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs (NACWC) presented Dr. Hawkins with the Education Award during its 112th Anniversary Convention in Torrance, California.

The NACWC has an Educational Partnership with Talladega College that was established more than a decade ago. Each year, the College offers a scholarship to one girl and boy who graduates from NACWC’s youth organization. Dr. Hawkins believes it’s a partnership that benefits everyone involved.

“When organizations like this one get involved in the educational process, then success is guaranteed,” said Hawkins. “This group and its work combined with the excellence at Talladega is the foundation needed for every student to achieve his goals.”

NACWC held its annual convention in California July 10th – 14th. Founded in 1896, the group is the oldest black women’s organization in America. NACWC has adult chapters in 32 states and the District of Columbia. Membership in Alabama is among the largest compared to other states.
