Being a Christian today...

I guess before I could even address the issue of being a Christian in an HBCU, I would need to address the issue of what it means to be a Christian.

Well, I could use my own words, but then you would be able to refute it huh? So I would just have to use scripture to explain.

Acts 11:26
"and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch."

The basic concept shared here in this preceding passage is that, Christians and disciples are used interchangeable for the first time. Hence, a Christian would be a disciple.

A disciple of Christ is one who (1) believes his doctrine, (2) rests on his sacrifice, (3) imbibes his spirit, and (4) imitates his example (Matt. 10:24; Luke 14:26, 27, 33; John 6:69).

I don't want to give you too much, so I will continue this on at a later time, but just think about those two issues mentioned above.

This is a wonderful topic to throw around. It really made me think about my spirituality. Many people today, including myself, believe the Gospel but we sometimes forget to rest, to take in Jesus' spirit, and imitate his example at ALL times. This is something that has been on my mind for the past two weeks and I appreciate your blog because it is a confirmation to a revelation I recently received.
