One Night At Alcorn

"It's been one of those nights." -Anonymous

Last night was a typical Saturday night here at Alcorn, dull and boring. There was a basketball game here, we were playing Mississippi Valley State University, but alot of my friends weren't going because they wanted to watch the Slam Dunk Contest at the All-Star game on TV, (Dwight Howard is a BEAST!) but I decided to go to the basketball game and see much of nothing, but I was in for quite a suprise.

When I arrived at the gym, the women's team was losing near the end of their game, and the men were about to start playing. The men started their game and they got off to a good start, but soon they began to fall behind and I threated to leave. I exclaimed this quite loudly so all of my friends and some of the surrounding crowd could hear. As the game went on Alcorn hung around, blew a lead but contined to stay in the game. at the end of regulation the game was tied so we went into a five minute overtime.

With a few seconds left, Valley managed to tie the game off of a blown dunk and a few other errors by our team. We inbounded the ball and it looked like we would be going into a second overtime, suddenly an Alcorn player threw up a shot from half court...and the ball went through the hoop without touching any iron...WE WON. The crowd stormed the court, and swarmed the hero who knocked the the improable shot.

After the game I decided to go to the after party at the Trace Theater in Port Gibson near school. The party was crunk and I was having a good time, I was walking down the dance floor when I heard a popping sound. It was gunshots, I turned and ran, just before I got to the exit and out to the bar I fell...but I kept moving foward.

I got outside safely with my friends, and the altercation had moved outside and there were people fighting outside the club and the police were coming to the scene. I decided to leave because I had seen enough for one night.

Last night was exciting, but nothing out of the ordinary here at Alcorn.
