When I saw Emmit Till's face...............

Azania Jenkins · Tuesday, May 10th 2005 at 10:03PM · 465 views
Today in my African American Studies class we watched the critically acclaimed "Eyes on The Prize" Documentary and i was shown for the first time the history of Emmit Till's Death and his actual body in the casket. I almost vomited...it was the worst image i have ever saw in my life. But I was the only one in my class who cried, who felt saddened to tears when I saw the hole on the side of his head and his chidhood pictures. i am angry at my predominantly Black Class' complacency with our history. What do you think, am I being too militant and overly critical?

When I first read of Emmit Till and his death it scared me half to death. When I saw his body in the casket it haunted me for what seemed like eternity. Even now when I think of it it gives me the chills. You should read a book entitled, "Getting Away With Murder", it is all about the Emmit Till Murder Trial. P.S. I read that the death of Emmit Till was the so called beginning of the Civil Rights Movement. Just thought you'd like to know.

Sister I feel you on that because i also watched that movie and did an indepth research paper on that and he was forced to die simply because he talked fresh to a white woman that really pissed me off and also brought me to tears. So tell ur class mates with their immature asses to get a grip and learn history

No, i odnt think that you over reacted at all...i remember the first time i say his face, i cried as well. Some people dont realize their history, or even possess the ability to comprehend what happened to him, you know? you are on a level of understanding and maturity that is above theirs, never look down on your actions because of the actions of others around you...keep your head up and stay up and dont change!!
