Hello Everyone'
I have just been acceptepted to Clark Atlanta University for the Spring of 2008. I have always wanted to go to this school and I am very excited. However, I am also worried because financially I have no help. I understand that I have options such as loans, scholarships and financial aid. First and foremost, Im kinda skeptical about taking out alot of loans so soon. Im a freshmen but I will be a sophmore when I transfer to Clark. I already have a 16,000 loan that i used to go to a career college for a year. I dropped out of the college when I found out there credits where not transferable. So I feel like that was a waste of money. After that I went to a communtiy college for a year and I paid for school with financial aid. Second, I've tried scholarships but it seems so hard to get them. I've gotten tired of applying and I never here anything back. Its like applying for a job and noone ever calls u back only difference is I put alot of work into my scholarship essay and application to get nothing.Third, Im sure I could get some financial aid but no grants because I am an out of state student. I dont want to end up owing like 50,000 in loans by the time i graduate. I do want to go to graduate school too. Most people have parents that help them pay for college. Unfortunatley, my parents are'nt financially stable and just cant afford to help me. I watch them struggle everyday trying to pay the bills and keep a roof over my head. Also, niether of my parents have a college education so getting a degree means alot to me. I desperately want to go away to college. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? Also has anyone been in my situation or is in my situation. Im sure some of you attended or wanted to attend college but your family could not afford to help you so you had to seek other options.....Please help someone

I went throught the same thing. I am a high school graduate of the class of 2006 and I got accepted to all these schools but couldn't go to none of them because of money. I was so depressed because I would not be going to school that year. I felt like I was going to be a failure and in up in a deadend job and be unhappy with my career and life if I did not go to college.I felt like I was missing something because all my friends were going to college. Its good you went to community and got some credits cheap. But girl don't take anymore loans out. You will be paying them back all your life unless you win one of those game shows.lol but seriously try to get a schlorship from your church if you go to church. If you did community service, try getting community service schlorships. Or become a member of a NAACP branch near you. They give out nice schlorships. I just recently went to a NAACP banquet and the recipents recieved like $5,000-$8,000 schlorships. Just be mindful of deadlines. Trust me I know about your mom can't help you pay for college. My mom didn't put any money away for me or my brothers and sisters. She is just living life from check to check. Just barely making it. Eventhough you are going out of state, the school should give you some money and if your parents income is low enough you may be eligible for special programs and grants at your school. So take a GOOD look at your college webpage and call the financial office or find out if they have a division for minorities; some brotha or sistah will hook you up if you have the right grades. But if all else fail just wait till the fall of 2008 or start the summer of 2008 and have your money straight. You don't want to get there they have get out cause your money is not straight.Oh yeah, girl you need to get down on your knees and you need to pray that God will connect you with the right people.I'll keep you in my prayers Shephanie. YOU WILL GET THERE AND WHEN YOU DO; YOU WILL BE ON TOP!
