What Do You DO?

Candice Johnson · Wednesday, August 22nd 2007 at 8:54PM · 510 views
You look around in your environment, your

society through media, and your peer group.

What do you see?

Do you see things that are having a negative or

a positive effect?

Are you going to be proactive if it is negative?

Are you going to recognize it if it is positive?

Will it make a difference?

Or do you really care?

What do I see?

I see a society that is morally and spiritually bankrupt. We as a nation are becoming isolated from each other, and slowly we are losing our purpose for existence. What happens when material wealth fails to bring satisfaction? When we can no longer impress each other with clothes and cars and image?

Am I going to be proactive?

Will it make a difference?

I pray daily that it will. Because if not, our future is very dim...

I see a media enviornment of a society that is continuously displayed at angles to benifit everything but positivity....there are barely enough programs & station like TV One to show the positive aspects of today's youth & the African American community....I honestly believe out media world thrives off the negative gossip of celebs and the invasion of privacy, therefore reversing our priorities as a media community....I see kids graduate college every year and place at company's and become individuals of positive change....I know of collegues that start mentoring programs for the youth to make a change.....but that is not on the 6 O'clock news cause that is not there concern....What I see is also negative but because we come from a world of temptation who love to push around blame and scream about the issues instead of creating solutions......Students like myself who have gone to the Harlem School of the Arts ansd been raised around true art and go off to college and make clubs and speak out against the negative media never make front page of the daily news cause it has never been about us...but the moment we club and party to rappers we are seen as ignorant young adult supporting the horrible movement of hip-hop.....If you wanna really know whats going on....bring your behine to HBCU homecomings....and IVY graduations and survey the the students of color graduating top of the class and workig for the top corporate comapnies around the US....just look harder for the things right next to you there is someone always doing good...highlight them and you'll see change.....I see a society of youth like myself that are tired of being ridiculed like we have no morals and no right to expression and we only know hip-hop aka rap music to the elders of out community....You need to physcially come and deal with the youth one on one to see the change...stop making assumptions!!!
