The 'N-word'... and race pride
Should we use it? Why do we use it? Why can't other people (non-blacks) use it? These arre just some of the questions i ask myself when i hear the 'n-word'. i grew up in a house that rearly used that word, and at my school, we were taught not to use it and that it was a word made by the white man to put us down. so it never used it. i loved my people too much to use it. which bring me to another subject, race pride... do we (black people) have it? i mean you would never hear Latinos call each other 'wet backs', Asias call each other "chinks" or white people call them selves "honkies"... so why do we use the 'n-word'?

Most people use the word simply because they hear others using it, but some have other reasonings. The thought behind blacks using the n-word is that if we can take control of it, we can change the way the word is perceived and maybe ease the hurt that comes along with it. That ties directly into why other races can't use it. It's kinda like when you tease your family......you will call each other some of the craziest and worse things you can think of, but you won't let anyone else get away with saying it. We as a people have much pride because we want to be the best at anything we try. The problem comes in because we have trouble rallying around a figure that's having success because of our personal pride as well. We will support our brother until he shows that we can be successful in the field that he choses to venture into, but after that everyone wants to be the star and we wind up weakened in our stand because of too much internal competition. More people are becoming aware of the social issues that we face everyday and we are becoming better and more well rounded as a people. Don't let these things get you down. Much love to you.
