Virginia State University President Dr. Makola Abdullah takes his message to the TEDxRVA stage. Dr. Abdullah was invited to give a talk on "STEM and The Arts" at the Carpenter Theatre in downtown Richmond where over 18OO people joined him. What a talk! He even had the crowd singing along to the infamous Motown hit song "My Girl" which garnished him rave reviews. Please take a look at the following videos:

A native of Chicago, Dr. Abdullah earned his B.S. from Howard University and his M.S. and Ph.D. from Northwestern University. At Northwestern, he was recognized as the youngest African American to receive a Ph.D. in engineering.An internationally renowned researcher and educator, Dr. Abdullah has also been recognized for his keen ability to meet and surpass challenging fundraising goals. Throughout his career, he has been committed to increasing the number of African Americans in the STEM fields. His record of success includes graduating four Ph.D.s and six M.S. scholars, in addition to publishing more than 25 technical publications. Highly respected by students, faculty, and administrators as a forward-thinking, personable leader, Dr. Abdullah is active in his community and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He is married to Dr. Ahkinyala Abdullah and is the father of Mikaili and Sefiyetu Abdullah.
