Hey fellow class of 06 college ppl, Im from GA and u know we got the "Hope Scholarship" which can be a load of crock @ times, but i've made up my mind Howard is the place for me. DC is about 10 hrs away, and me being their only child, they don't really want me to go so far. How do i explain just how much i want this, need to be away from them, without hurting their feelings or getting into a fight about it? Anyone, please help!

Well, just let them know that while you do care about how they feel and you dont want to hurt them by going so far away, that you need to be at the place where you will be most comfortable and get the best education. Although they are your parents they have to understand that you are growing up and you will have to decide some things for yourself. let them know that you will be home as much as possible. We have fall break, thanksgiving break, long Christmas break, spring break... lots of chances to go home... and on long weekends they can come see you.... It will work out ok... ur just their babygirl but if u tell them stuff like that...let them see that we really arent gone at college all that long...then they should come around. Hope i could be of some help! ~BrieBrie~
