ASU TO CELEBRATE FOUNDERS' DAY WITH SEVERAL EVENTS

Fred Gray, one of the most iconic figures of the Civil Rights Movement, will be the keynote speaker at Alabama State University's 115th Founders' Day Convocation on Friday, February 6, at 10 a.m. in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.


The theme of this year's Convocation is "Onward and Upward: Opportunity is Here."


In addition to the Convocation, the University is hosting a series of events honoring the memory of the bold visionaries, known as the Marion Nine, who helped established a legacy of education that continues to touch lives around the world.


Events include wreath-laying ceremonies and the From Marion to Montgomery Ceremonial Processional. 

 

The complete Founders' Day schedule is as follows:


Friday, Feb. 6, 2015

 

9 a.m.

From Marion to Montgomery Ceremonial Processional
Starting at Tullibody Hall (South Jackson St.) and proceeding to the Dunn-Oliver Acadome


10 a.m.

115th Founders' Day Convocation
Speaker: Attorney Fred Gray, Esq

Dunn-Oliver Acadome

The Founders' Day Convocation is a celebration of the University's rich history dating back to 1867. The Spirit of Tullibody and the Spirit of Marion Awards, which recognize alumni for their achievements, community service and contributions to ASU, are presented during the Convocation. The Black and Gold Standard Award, which is not given annually, also will be presented during this year's Convocation.

Wreath-Laying Ceremonies Honoring Past Presidents
Greenwood and Oakwood Cemeteries
The Wreath-Laying Ceremonies honor several past ASU Presidents.


3:30 p.m.

Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
32 Commerce Street / Downtown Montgomery
