GLORY FOODS RECIPE CONTEST WINNER SELECTED!

Congratulations to HBCUConnect.com member Brandy Rainwater for her slammin' recipe submission! Brandy's tasty "Dirty Rice" recipe beat out 33 finalists whose recipes ranged from Ox-tails, to Creole Macaroni and Cheese, to Vegetarian BBQ Ribs! We took these recipes for a test drive over the Thanksgiving holiday and we take our hats off to each and every submission.

We've reprinted Brandy's recipe below for your Holiday enjoyment. Also, make sure to stop by her guestbook and say hello.

Dirty Rice
Take 4c water, one-fourth cup of butter, 2tbs. Tony Chacheres seasoning bring to a boil place 2c of long grain rice in stir. cook for about 20 minutes on low, covered. take 1lb. ground turkey brown with halfcup onion diced and some garlic and a little salt to taste, slice some Hillshire Farm smoked 1lb.sausage (turkey), use 1c diced chicken gizzards that have been boiled tender. Add all of this meat to the rice when done. Mix thoroughly with one can of chicken broth and 1c finely chopped red and green bell pepper. Place in a greased 13x9 pan bake covered for 40 minutes at 350 Degrees then top with 2c mixure of shredded cheddar & monterey jack cheese bake at 450 Degrees until cheese is golden brown. Enjoy!

Hey Brandy congratulations. By the way, I have never tried your version of the Dirty Rice but it is so similar to what we have back home in The Gambia, West Africa, and the translation means the same thing in english too. Sometimes it's suprising how much of the culture from the motherland Blacks in the U.S still possess, and it makes me proud. Well maybe you can do some research and find out more about it because I am the wrong person to ask (lol) All the best.

Queen, cook for me. A brother, been trying to get and cook dirty rice, but without those special spices, the combination, just wont slide. Cooking is a beautiful thing. Take care , misses. fa, show

With the exception of the latter scavengers of the earth that biologist and religion will condem, the rest sounds good. One man's opinion.
