Tennessee State University Students Hosts Trayvon Martin Peace March

Gerald Green · Wednesday, July 17th 2013 at 8:19PM · 260 views
A large group of students - including myself- from Tennessee State University hosted a peace march for Trayvon Martin and his loving family. Many of us were carrying signs which said, "We all could have been Trayvon Martin." Ever since George Zimmerman was found Not Guilty of killing Martin in Florida, there have been strong reactions toward the case. The crowd assembled to pray for the success for this walk and we also sang songs such as "We Shall Overcome" and "I'm Gonna Let It Shine", and march for peace. We also chanted that they want justice. Many people question the nation's self-defense laws, saying people shouldn't be allowed to shoot first, but should first try to get away. The march was approximately 2 miles long. The group started from Tennessee State University and continued to the Farmer's Market. We know we can't change the jury's mind, but students hope we can start a conversation about self-defense laws.
