Mislead

Tinli Perry · Wednesday, November 2nd 2005 at 9:25PM · 360 views
I am a freshman in college at ASU. I am often times scrutinized because I am on a black college campus and do not use slang when in public. I live with the belief that there is a time and place for everything. You never know who is watching and observing you. Why do I feel as though I am somehow betraying my fellow African Americans, while I am only being myself.

You're not betraying your African Americans if you're being yourself. Speaking slang has been adapted into our culture, but it doesn't haven't to be a part of your everyday life. You're right, you never know who's watching u- they might get a false impression about you, judging from the language you may be using. Anyone who looks down at you for not speaking slang isn't your friend.

I'm with Amecia. You are not betraying us and there is a time and place for everything. You are just fine. Keep up the good work and good impression.

I commend You and You be who You are Sis. Those who try to dominate others are fakefacades themselves and try to get others to conform but they are lost!
What makes You unique is being who You are Sis!
Sincerely
William
