Harry you seem to be assured that is "to my understanding not to believe Jesus was God" and that God has no need to pray. However, no man can even begin to understand all the ways of God, nor of his infinite mind. We simply do not have the power to comprehend the power of the Almighty. Then too, God is a Spirit of 7-fold and every power of his Spirit is a mystery to the human mind and even spiritually opened mind is ignorant to all their understandings. But those who are born of spirit have the unctions of the Holy Spirit which can answer any questions beholding the God's glory.
If Jesus was God why would he be praying? Jesus prayed not only that prayer in the night of his betrayal, but also prayed for his disciples. And the Spirit of God lived in Jesus which also made Jesus a living body of Spirit among the flesh of men. This is the everlasting Spirit of God and the Holy Spirit also being God's own Spirit as well. Surely, he did pray that some other way be given to taking his bitter cup, but it was the will of the Father which he stated the will of the Father be done in Himself. This also being his own will because a great love shown to reconcile men life eternal. This means that all things are of God including prayers. For God does pray, but not in the ways that men pray, but prays by the prayers of the Holy Spirit. Jesus and God being one, Jesus made a statement that those whom have seen him; or known him has known the Father, for he was God Himself. Those who believe have no question that Jesus was God and that God did pray, but never sinned. We have evidence he prayed in Jesus. And for this cause those who follow Christ believe.
Now if I recall correctly; it was Goliath that fell to his to his death, by a young small boy named David who trusted the Almighty God.
"Now all things are of God, who reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. That is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to HImself, not imputing their trespasses of the, and has committed us the Word of reconciliation." 2 Corinthians: 4:18-19
"For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on things of the flesh, but those who live according the Spirit, the things of the Spirit."
"Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, "But the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."--[Romans: 8:5 and Romans: 8: 26-28]
That is all Harry. May God pray for us his childrend.
