Does Education Make You Lose Your Hood Cred?
Sometimes I don't understand how people determine credibility. I went to a inner-city high school when I was a teenager, and after high school I went to a HBCU. Recently at work we were talking about what high schools we attended, and someone stated the school I went to was ghetto. Well a female said I went to blank high school, and I also said I went there. She turned and looked at me and said what do you know about blank high school? I told her I graduated from there in 2000. Sometimes I believe if you continue your education after high school some people believe that you are better than them or you must live in a suburb or went to a private school. Why getting your education is suppose to be a "white thing." Sometimes I feel that some of the people in our race who don't want to go past high school feel like if you get more education you acting white and you loss your hood credibility. I say screw hood credibility, I'm trying do something with my life. Instant gratification leads to poverty, and gaining knowledge builds foundations. Staying in the mind frame of hood credibility will leave as a poor individual.
I fit in both and coincidentally there are people in both that do not accept me for me and who I am as a Man.Great post, keep up the good work Bro.
