Cutting The Strings
We have come a long way. It's true. We have come from the shackles of slavery into the shackles of our own people. Yes...we hold our own selves down. It's sad.
We are the first to blast those who are trying to wake us up. When Bill Cosby first became more vocal about what he preached for over a decade with the Cosby Show, Blacks, not Whites, were the first to jump on him. We jumped on him like he was the first piece of meat that we'd eaten in three years.
However, when Whites threaten our own well-being, we are slow to jump on them. The White Democrats have openly opposed the appointment of Condeleeza Rice. However, the Blacks were very silent. It was a deafening silence.
Why did we not come to her aid? This is the same thing we do to our own peers. When our peers are in trouble, we rarely come to their aid when they need it the most. Why do we wait until it is too little too late to help someone who needed help 3 months ago?
I understand that most people believe to each his own. But our culture is more important that someone's selfishness. Learn to reach out to your fellow brothers and HBCUs. When your HBCU is not chosen to do a big event, support the HBCU that was chosen.

nice info. it is all so true. i think we are still in the revolutionary period. we are still evolving as a people. i guess these are the side effects of slavery and segregation.
