Black Cowboys are for Real
TaRhonda Thomas from 9NEWS KUSA television in Denver, Colorado did a story on my rodeo, professional bull riding and writing careers for Black History Month. The story was aired on Tuesday February 15, 2011. The title of my first autobiography is "My Cowboy Hat Still Fits". My second autobiography titled Justin: A Father's Fight for His Son was published in September 2009. As an author, rodeo announcer, television commentator, free-lance writer, financial services professional, single father and motivational speaker there is no doubt that I'll leave behind a proud legacy. As a well-known African American rodeo cowboy, I've been inducted into the Salem County (New Jersey) Sports Hall of Fame and the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum and Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas.
I'm most proud that I was able to fight through a nine year quagmire and court battle loaded with legal snares and entanglements to finally gain primary custody of my son Justin. I never gave up and neither did he. Justin thanks me on a regular basis for enduring the knock out punches yet getting back up and answering the bell for another brutal round.
Justin is the love of my life and the most talented student and young athlete whom I've ever been around. I honestly believe he'll make it all the way to professional baseball, football or basketball someday. Justin excels in all three major sports. It doesn't hurt my feelings at all if he never becomes a professional bull rider.
Justin will be my proudest accomplishment and legacy that I'll leave behind. He wants me to get married again someday. I'll be patient and pray on that until the right woman comes along to enrichly bless and complement both of our lives.
