The Invisible Man-Ralph Ellison

I think the book (I've only read maybe 1/3 or 1/4) is masterfully written. As you said in class, Ellison has amazing diction. I have a sticky note practically on every page because Ellison expresses his ideas with such brilliance that I cannot turn the page and neglect certain lines. I've only read up to the part when the main character has to see the head master because he took one of the founders out to a bar and he became ill. I've often questioned whether the founder was a sincere white man or not. He seems like he's another white philanthropist looking for a cause to contribute to; however, he also believes that this was his destiny to help these people (blacks). Currently, I believe that the white man had good intentions, but society motivated him to support the black cause from charity perspective. However, originally, I did think that he was taking on the white man's burden in terms of education rather than religion.

I've never picked up a book, started to read it, and right from the start declare that it was a good book. One of my favorite authors is Sylvia Plath and I really do enjoy reading The Bell Jar; however, I never enjoyed reading The Bell Jar as much or in the same respect as The Invisible Man. I'm surprised your other class didn't enjoy it, but it is a book that would most commonly appeal to African Americans. So, a predominately Caucasian class filled with children emerging or already merged from their teens physically, but certainly not mentally, cannot fully comprehend a novel such as this. Although it isn't wise to say that a book is good without reading it in its entirety, I would certainly say that this is a good back regardless because of how promising it is.
Obviously, I'm going to finish this book after my English courses :)
